Innovative Collaborations in Product Development Details

Dr. James Cloyd is Professor and Lawrence C. Weaver Endowed Chair in Orphan Drug Development and Director of the Center for Orphan Drug Research at the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy.  Dr. Cloyd received a BS in pharmacy from Purdue University, a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Kentucky, completed a three-year hospital pharmacy residency at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, and a post-doctoral fellowship in pharmacokinetics at the University of Washington.  His research focuses on the clinical pharmacology of antiepileptic drugs and the development of orphan drugs to treat rare, pediatric neurological disorders.  He has published more than a 100 papers and book chapters on various aspects of neuropharmacotherapy. Dr. Cloyd’s research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Food and Drug Administration, foundations, and the pharmaceutical industry.  Dr. Cloyd has trained 17 PhD and post-doctoral trainees, many of whom have pursued a career in clinical pharmacology.  He is actively involved in several international and national organizations including the International Conference on Rare Diseases and Orphan Drugs and the American Epilepsy Society, where he serves on the Board of Directors. He is a member of several National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) data and safety monitoring boards, has served on NINDS study sections and is a grant reviewer for several foundations. He is a member of the editorial board of epilepsy.com and an ad-hoc reviewer for many journals in the areas of neurology, pharmacology, and epilepsy.

Dr Kocher joined Mayo Clinic in October 2005 to develop and direct the activities of the newly created Bioinformatics Core. In 2008, he became Chair of the Division of Biomedical Statistics and Informatics (BSI) that regrouped experts in Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Medical Informatics and Computer Science. Prior to joining Mayo Clinic, Dr. Kocher served as Executive Officer at Molecular Networks, a chemoinformatics company and Director of Computational Chemistry at Camitro Corp., Dr. Kocher's scientific interest focuses on the development and application of computational methods to advance the understanding of the molecular mechanisms that underlie clinical disorders.

Bob Paulson is President & CEO of NxThera, a venture-backed, medical device company using vapor to treat BPH and prostate cancer.  Prior to NxThera, Bob was President & CEO of Restore Medical (acquired by Medtronic), and CFO & VP Global Marketing for Endocardial Solutions (acquired by St. Jude).  Bob previously was Sr. VP at Advanced Bionics, VP General Manager and VP Corporate Strategy at Medtronic.  Bob held a variety of operating and staff positions at General Mills, and was a corporate attorney with Lindquist & Vennum.  Bob has served on the boards of several private and publicly-traded medical device companies.

As President of Risdall Integration Group Jared focuses on leveraging the strengths of Risdall Marketing Group's divisions to develop solutions for clients that harness the power of integrated marketing. He develops integrated digital and social marketing campaign strategies to help achieve client objectives. He develops and plans the convergence of traditional and new media to effectively influence inform and engage key audiences. He rejoined Risdall Marketing Group in 2008 with valuable experience working for Mullen and Keystone Sympoisa. While at Mullen he led the integrated marketing efforts for Embarq and Wachovia. Prior to Mullen he worked at Keystone Symposia a Bill and Melinda Gates-supported organization where he created a social network for scientists - that brought scientists from all over the world together in facilitating connections and expediting research. Jared holds a bachelor's degree in marketing from the University of Minnesota and a master's degree in integrated marketing communications from the University of Colorado.

Mr. Spencer has served on several non-profit boards, including Children’s Healthcare (former chair), Minnesota Children’s Museum (former chair), Minnesota Venture Capital Association (current president), The Blake School (former chair) and Allina Hospitals & Clinics (former chair). Mr. Spencer earned his BA in history from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts and an MBA from Columbia University in New York.

Mr. Worrell is the founding principal of Worrell, Inc., a Multi-National Product Development and Design Strategy firm with offices in Minneapolis and Shanghai, China. Since 1976, Mr. Worrell has provided an interdisciplinary product development process creating brilliantly designed solutions for his clients. He has served on the AAMI human factors committee and was named one of the 100 notable people in the medical device industry in 2004. Mr. Worrell was a founder of the Pelegrin Partners that created two new start-ups based on technology liscensed from Mayo Clinic. Mr. Worrell holds a degree in Industrial Design from Purdue University.
